Egypt has been an important member in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Arab Parliament since their establishment, said
IPU President Saber Chowdhury.
In statements upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, Chowdhury, meanwhile, said that his four-day visit to Egypt comes to meet a number of Egyptian officials to tackle several issues and joint files in light of the difficult circumstances besetting several countries.
Chowdhury added that he will meet with Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Araby, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal.
Arab Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Jarwan, who was at Cairo Airport to receive Chowdhury, said that the IPU president is a friend for all parliamentarians in the Arab world and his visit aims to promote partnership between the international community and the Arab world.
He also hoped that Chowdhury's visit will contribute to attaining partnership agreements in training and developing parliamentary work.
