Egypt indicts nine emigrated Copts

Egypt's attorney general has indicted nine Coptic citizens who emigrated to the US on charges stemming from the production of the film that triggered protests throughout the Islamic world, Egyptian media reported on Tuesday. The charges against director Elia Bassili, alleged producer Maurice Sadek and seven other people include attacking the Prophet Mohammed, fomenting religious hatred, and attempting to dismember the country. Also on Tuesday, an appeals court in Sohag, in Upper Egypt, sentenced Beshoy el Beheri, a Copt, to six years in prison for publishing cartoons deemed to be degrading to the Prophet Mohammed and to President Mohamed Morsi on his Facebook page in August of last year. Beheri had denied the charges, claiming he was not the owner of that Facebook account.
