Egypt is keen on bolstering ties with the Nile Basin countries in general, and the Democratic Republic of Congo in particular, Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hossam Moghazi said on Friday.
The minister made the statements at the end of the 7th meeting of an Egyptian-Congolese committee tasked with launching a project to bolster technical cooperation between the two countries in the field of water resources.
A delegation of the Congolese Ministry of Environment participated in the Cairo-hosted meeting.
Moghazi said the project aims at developing Congo's water resources through preparing a feasibility study over the establishment of a hydroelectric infrastructure on the Semliki River in Congo.
Up to 30 wells will be dug to provide water for deprived areas in Congo, Moghazi noted, adding that the two countries signed an agreement to exchange expertise in the agricultural and irrigation fields.
