Egypt had been entrusted by Saudi Arabia to look after the Red Sea islands of Tiran and Sanafir which are now being given back to their owners, a senior lawmaker has said.
In statements on Tuesday, head of the parliament's defense and national security committee Kamal Amer called on reporters to get acquainted with maps that draw up Egypt's borders and confirm that the two islands are Saudis.
"The maritime border demarcation agreement signed between Egypt and Saudi Arabia will be sent to the parliament where it will be referred to a specialized committee for discussion," Amer said.
He stressed that the deal has been clinched after seven years of coordination.
