Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali met with Amin Awad, the UN refugee agency here (UNHCR) Regional Coordinator for the Middle East, after his visit to Syria.
They discussed the UNHCR's plan to support the Syrian refugees in Egypt.
Wali said there are 140,000 registered Syrian refugees in Egypt.
The vast majority of Syrians who have unrest at home since 2011 have been hosted by five countries in the region – Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt – whose resources have been stretched to breaking point by the influx.
