Egypt prosecutor challenges Mubarak's acquittal verdict

Egyptian Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat has issued an appeal against a recent court ruling clearing ousted president Hosni Mubarak, his sons, his interior minister and six of the latter's aides of charges of ordering the killing of protesters during the January 25, 2011 Revolution.
The move came after the Public Prosecution found out that there were flaws in Mubarak's acquittal verdict, Egypt's state-owned Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported here on Tuesday.
A relevant study conducted by a technical team of the Public Prosecution showed that "the verdict included legal flaws", it said.
The appeal is to be submitted to the Court of Cassation, Egypt's highest appellate court, which is expected to demand a new trial in case the prosecutor's appeal was granted.
Cairo Criminal Court had ruled that Mubarak, his sons, his interior minister and six of his aides had nothing to do with the killing of protesters during the uprising that forced Mubarak out of power on February 11, 2011.
