Manpower Minister Mohamed Saafan met his Qatari counterpart Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Minister Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 43rd round of the Arab Labor Conference.
Safaan said that direct contact channels have to be opened between the two ministries to discuss all problems of workers before they get worse.
He reviewed the problems of Egyptian workers in Qatar, as sent by the labor counselor at the Egyptian embassy in Qatar, mainly the issue of laying off 150 Egyptians at an institution with most of them facing jail time because they obtained bank loans and now cannot pay them due to the sudden lay-off.
The Qatari minister said his ministry is also facing a problem with unlicensed workers in the country, to which Safaan promised to resolve as soon as possible.
