The Egyptian people reject any interference in the domestic affairs of their country, Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam said on Friday.
Speaking to a Belgian newspaper, Allam said human rights are of concern to everybody.
"The principle of selectivity, however, should not be applied to issues of human rights," he said.
Allam, who is in Belgium now for delivering a speech at the European Union, called for an objective discussion of issues of common interest.
Egypt respects freedom of expression and rejects all forms of violence, he stressed.
"Extremism has nothing to do with Islam," he said, adding that the Egyptian Darul-Iftaa has exerted strenuous efforts to refute claims of the terrorist groups.
