Former director general of Ireland's Department of Tourism Matt McNulty said Tuesday Egypt has to adopt specific and clear objectives to be achieved by its tourism sector.
The tourism sector can resolve the current crisis of the foreign currency shortage on the Egyptian markets, McNulty added during a workshop organized by the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council (ENCC) to discuss the current crisis in the tourism sector.
McNulty said that Egypt should consider developing a development strategy for the tourism sector in accordance with a vision of revenues and positive effects on the national economy that can be achieved by the sector.
The country should also spare no effort in developing the sector's support services, such as transport, aviation, services, shopping and entertainment through partnerships between government sectors and between the government and the private sector, he added.
Egypt must benefit from tourists' passion to visit the pyramids, as well as eco-tourism, that should be considered a starting point for a strategic development of the tourism industry in Egypt, McNulty concluded.
