Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Idris said on Friday that Egypt strongly supports stability and development in South Sudan, stressing Cairo's keenness that the disagreement remains political and not to develop into ethnic or regional conflict that will have dire consequences on the country and its neighbors.
"Egypt supports development in South Sudan and has good relations with all parties there," Idris said, adding that Cairo is urging all parties to conflict to implement a ceasefire agreement to end the conflict.
"Egypt is ready to help the parties achieve peace, stability and development in all possible means," he stresses.
"Egypt's stance in dealing with conflicts to achieve peace and security in Africa serves its interests," he added.
He noted that Egypt exerts efforts to contain the ongoing crisis in Burundi and to support dialogue in the African country.
On terrorism, the assistant minister said that Egypt will host in March a meeting of the defense ministers of 28 Community of Sahel-Saharan States.
