Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Sudanese Counterpart Ibrahim Ghandour said on Saturday that the number of spillway gates built in the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a "technical matter".
Addressing a joint press conference in Cairo, Shoukry said that the number of gates should only be discussed by technical studies.
The minister said the Ethiopians would not object cutting down the number of gates if they had no scientific significance.
The Sudanese minister also asserted that there is no room for political arguments on the number of the dam's gates as it should only be determined by scientists.
Ghandour added the three countries are ready to accept the outcomes of the technical studies planned to be released on the dam.
The studies would support whether the current number of gates is important, the minister added.
The two ministers reiterated the importance of ties linking both states, voicing keenness on boosting cooperation.
