Egypt has officially taken over the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Sanctions Committee from Jordan.
Egypt will chair the committee during its two-year membership of the UN Security Council.
Egypt will act to support efforts of the DRC and other countries in the Great Lakes region to achieve peace and stability and overcome the threat of armed groups, said Amr Abul Aata, Egypt's permanent envoy to the UN in a statement obtained by the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Achieving stability in the east of Congo is key to achieving peace and development in the Great Lakes region, Abul Aata said.
