Egyptian Defence minister approves new batch of army volunteers

Minister of Defense General Sedqi Sobhi on Wednesday agreed to accept a new batch of volunteers who wish to join the Armed Forces as of April 4 this year.
Applicants should be holders of preparatory school degree or its equivalents or having a technical education diploma, Maj. Gen. Mohei El Dine Kamal, the head of the Army Administration of Recruitment and Mobilization, said at a press conference held here earlier in the day.
The applicants must be unmarried, born to Egyptian parents and not less than 15 years of age or over 25 years at the time of submitting their recruitment papers, he added.
Basic training period will take 18 months, he said.
Applications will start to be accepted from April 4 till May 7.
