The Egyptian Embassy in Berlin dismissed on Monday media reports that it prepared security reports about Egyptians living in Germany for sending them to authorities in Egypt.
In a statement, the Embassy voiced deep sorrow over attempts to implicate it in issues that have no link at all to the work of Egyptian embassies abroad.
Such baseless allegations and accusations represent a deliberate malicious intent to defame the Egyptian state institutions, including the lofty Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its embassies abroad, the statement read.
They might also represent a failure to understand the basics and rules of diplomatic action abroad and of the role of diplomacy in defending national Egyptian interests, as well as the interests of expatriates, it added.
Within this context, the Embassy underlined that all relevant procedures taken with nationals returning back from Germany on Egyptian border points, including arrests, come only upon judicial orders and due to considerations of the bodies concerned.
The Embassy neither has a link to any such a procedure nor is notified about any progress in relevant investigations, the Embassy asserted in its statement.
