Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Tuesday with a number of independent Palestinian figures to discuss efforts to achieve national reconciliation and reconstruct Gaza.
Yasser al Wadiya, a Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) member, is leading the Palestinian delegation.
He condoled with Shoukry for the death of Egyptian soldiers in heinous terrorist attacks, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Aati said.
The top diplomat thanked Wadiya for those fraternal feelings, stressing that the Palestinian cause will remain Egypt's number one concern being a central Arab issue, Abdel Aati said.
Efforts will continue until the Palestinians get their lawful rights and establish their independent state on their soil, Shoukry told the Palestinian delegation.
He made it clear that Egypt will not give up its duties toward the Palestinians and will continue to act to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.
Wadiya said the Palestinian people appreciate Egypt's historical role and continued support for them.
He posted Shoukry on the political and economic situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
They also talked about the Israeli settlement activities and measures to judaize al Quds, Abdel Aati said.
The delegation said that efforts are being exerted to end the division and achieve national unity.
The independent Palestinian figures urged all Palestinian factions to act responsibly and renounce personal disputes in order to achieve reconciliation and reconstruct Gaza.
