Caretaker Interior Minister Magdi Abdel Ghaffar contacted on Sunday Assistant Interior Minister and executive head of the lottery Hajj mission Sayyed Maher to inquire after the health of Egyptian pilgrims who were wounded when a construction crane collapsed at the Grand Mosque in Mecca.
Upon the directives of Abdel Ghaffar, Maher traveled to Mecca on Saturday to stand on the conditions of wounded pilgrims and the others as well.
Two Egyptian pilgrims were killed and 18 others reportedly injured in the accident, which left 107 dead and an estimated 238 injured.
Saudi officials said that strong winds and heavy rains were behind the crane’s collapse.
