Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar honored a citizen and four policemen over their bravery and efforts in arresting a Muslim Brotherhood member involved in planting two bombs outside the residence of head of the Cairo Criminal Court Moataz Khafagi.
Counselor Khafagi survived an assassination attempt outside his house in Helwan district after unidentified men planted explosives in his car that caused a powerful explosion on Sunday.
The MB member, a pharmacist, was arrested by two police officers with the help of the citizen, while the other two evacuated the counselor and his family from the apartment overlooking the street.
His accomplice, however, has escaped.
The interior minister hailed the sense of responsibility of citizens and their cooperation with security bodies.
Citizens' role in fighting terrorism and crime is no less important than that of policemen during this phase, he said.
