Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi on Monday underlined the importance of "religious discourse correction," saying ongoing violence and destruction in some region's countries run against religion.
Al-Sisi made such remarks during his meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Arab Journalists, led by Yusuf Behbehani, as well as representatives of Arab Journalists Syndicates.
"The region is experiencing critical period and conditions, so intellectual conscience is needed to help media abide by objectiveness ... in order to support the Arab countries to overcome their challenges," Ambassador Alaa Yousef, presidency spokesman, told reporters as he was quoting Al-Sisi as saying.
"Media has been developed due to scientific progress and information technology, so the Arab press institutions have key roles in raising the awareness of citizens toward their issues," Al-Sisi said.
He added that it is important to stress that the Arab people need to be familiar with the region's situations.
Al-Sisi pointed out that Egypt spares no efforts to contribute to restoring stability in the region's countries which have been suffering from political unrest and insecurity.
He stressed that Egypt provides full support to Libya's army and legal institutions which were established upon the people's will.
The delegation said that Egypt is an example that the region's countries should follow.
Some attendees appealed to Al-Sisi to pardon the imprisoned journalists in Egypt, but he said: "I legally cannot grant amnesty for them until final verdicts in their cases are issued." He, however, stressed that he cannot interfere in the work of the country's "independent" judiciary.
