Transport Minister Hani Dahi said that technical committees will convene next Monday to discuss the routes of a high-speed train planned to travel from Alexandria to Aswan.
An agreement was reached with a Chinese government company to implement the project via the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis system, Dahi said in a press conference today.
This includes the financing and operation of the project, he added.
Deals were also sealed with Chinese companies to renovate and upgrade Egyptian railways, Dahi told reporters.
The first phase of the project will connect Alexandria and Cairo, then from Cairo to Assiut as a second phase and finally from Assiut to Aswan, Dahi noted.
