
Egypt's Awqaf Minister Dr Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa left here Tuesday for Khartoum, Sudan, for talks with Sudanese President Omar al Bashir.
The talks with Bashir will focus on means of boosting bilateral relations in many fields, including religion, Gomaa said in predeparture statements.
During his four-day visit to Sudan, Gomaa will also meet with representatives of the Egyptian community there to get firsthand information about their conditions and to answer any questions they have.
Gomaa said he will also post them on efforts by his Ministry to renew the religious discourse.
Gomaa is also scheduled to meet with al Sayyed al Fateh Taj al Ser, his Sudanese counterpart, to discuss religious ties between the two Nile countries.
The Egyptian minister will also take part in an intellectual get-together with a number of scholars.
He will also meet with the Sudanese scholars' authority to discuss the current religious issues.
Gomaa will also deliver the Friday sermon at al Shaheed Mosque in Khartoum.
He is planned to visit the HQ of the Sudanese Awqaf Ministry to see for himself how it is managed and what religious activities it provides.
Gomaa will also visit the University of the Holy Quran and Islamic Sciences, the Holy Quran Printing House for Africa, the high council for dawah in Khartoum and the Holy Quran Society.
The Egyptian minister will also meet with a number of sheikhs of the Sufi orders.
