Egypt's new ambassador assumes post in Israel

Egypt’s new ambassador in Israel Hazem Khairat has started his tenure days ago, said the spokesman for the foreign ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Sunday.

The decision to return the Egyptian ambassador to Israel has been taken since a period, said the spokesman in press statements.

The diplomat’s return is important in light of Egypt’s role in the coming period as regards the Palestinian cause and Cairo’s support for it as well as coordination of stances of the different parities, said the spokesman.

This is in addition to Egypt’s recently-assumed seat in the UN Security Council, he added.

“It’s normal that the Egyptian ambassador assumes his duties in Israel and makes required contacts to support the Palestinian cause,” he said.

Asked if there is planned initiatives by Egypt with the Security Council on the Palestinian cause, the spokesman said there are no initiatives at present.
