Egypt's permanent representative to UN participates in mission to Burundi

Egypt's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN) Amr Abul Atta said that the members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) agreed that all the Burundian parties should respect their country's constitution and Arusha Peace and Reconciliation Agreement signed in 2000.

This comes in the framework of Abul Atta participation in the mission delegated by the UNSC to Burundi in January 21 and 22 to settle the political and security crises witnessed by the African country.

The UNSC stressed on the importance of preserving the gains acquired to achieve peace, stability and development, underling the need to reach a political solution to that crisis via organizing a comprehensive national dialogue with the participation of all the peaceful national parties according to the UNSC resolution 2248.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Saturday, the Egyptian diplomat underscored that the delegation of the UNSC grouped representatives of the 15 member countries in the council, including the permanent representatives of Egypt, US, Britain and Angola.

The delegation held meetings with the Burundian president, vice president and foreign minister, the statement read.
