
Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the ERC board, today received Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, and his accompanying delegation, at ERC headquarters.
Al Mazrouie welcomed Maurer's visit, pointing out that it would open up wider horizons for constructive cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. He also stressed that the UAE-led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is proactive in supporting and providing assistance to all people across the world.
He indicated that the initiatives launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, have placed the country among the effective countries in the international humanitarian work.
He also confirmed desire and unlimited efforts of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, to position the authority in an advanced rank within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement as well as strengthen bridges of cooperation with regional and international humanitarian aid organisations.
The two sides also tackled humanitarian partnership fields and cooperation opportunities to alleviate the suffering faced by those affected by conflicts and disasters, stressing the need to strengthen areas of humanitarian response for the benefit of people who suffer from the Crisis.
They also discussed working together in a number of regions to alleviate the suffering of millions of people around the world. The two sides also exchanged views on ways to enhance humanitarian work, and provide more protection to victims of disasters and disputes, as well as providing support for urgent and pressing humanitarian issues. They also reviewed both sides' plans and programmes to put an end to humanitarian suffering and their efforts in Yemen.
Al Mazrouie also briefed the international official on ERC's efforts in Yemen aimed to shorten the period of early recovery through the rehabilitation of vital sectors affected by current developments such as; health, education, infrastructure and water and electricity services' fields.
For his part, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross praised the huge and distinguished humanitarian efforts exerted by ERC all over the world to alleviate suffering and provide better life to victims of catastrophes and crises.
He also underscored the importance of ERC's initiatives in Yemen and its unlimited efforts to improve living conditions of the people there.
