Egyptian authorities have indicted former Egyptian Premier Ahmad Shafiq for corruption and issued an international warrant for his arrest, public prosecution sources said on Tuesday. Shafiq, who was Egypt's last premier under ousted President Hosni Mubarak, fled to the United Arab Emirates with his family following his failed bid for office in the last Egyptian presidential election. The former premier was charged with corruption for the fraudulent 1993 purchase of a plot of land from an Air Force association he led at the time by Mubarak's two sons, onetime heir apparent Gamal and wealthy businessman Alaa. Both on trial for insider trading, they have been incarcerated in Tora prison for months. The indictement also includes other association board members, who have been prohibited from leaving the country. Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have no extradition treaty.
