
Egypt was among 15 countries in the region that succeeded in achieving the millennium goal concerned with eradicating hunger, a UN official said on Monday.
Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative at the FAO Regional Office for Near East and North Africa, made the remarks at the opening of the 33rd session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East.
The other countries are Algeria, Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, he stated.
Some of these countries succeeded in halving the spread of malnutrition during the period from 1990 to 2015, while some others kept the rates under 5 percent, the official added.
