A fire broke out at a refinery in the sheikhdom of Abu Dhabi, the capital and biggest emirate of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Wednesday evening, Abu Dhabi daily The National reported.
Work was in progress to contain the fire at Takreer Ruwais refinery and no casualties have been reported, said the government-controlled Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.
There was "no immediate danger" to the population, said an official statement.
"The fire is contained to one of our processing units," The National quoted the company as saying.
The refinery is located in Al Gharbia region, about 240 kilometers west of Abu Dhabi.
Fires or damages at refineries and oil rigs of pipelines are extremely rare in the Gulf Arab state which harbors approximately eight percent of the world's known oil reserves.
