Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has thanked Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) President Saber Chowdhury and President of the Arab Parliament (AP) Ahmed al Jarawan for their keenness to visit Egypt and contact leaders of the Egyptian House of Representatives once it was sworn in.
Chowdhury and Jarawan are currently in Egypt for talks with Egyptian officials, including the speaker of parliament, to congratulate them on the first parliamentary session.
Chowdhury told Shoukry he was pleased with the formation of the new parliament, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a press statement Tuesday.
The meeting took up cooperation between the IPU and the Egyptian parliament particularly regarding the legal framework to fight terrorism and efforts to achieve development goals, Abu Zeid added.
