
Luxor security chief has stressed that thwarting a terrorist attack near Karnak Temple showed police's swift response and alert in dealing with such acts.
Hossam el Manawi said in statements on Saturday that security measures have been beefed up around temples and archaeological and tourist sites in Luxor. (MENA)
Police on Wednesday managed to prevent three gunmen from entering the grounds of the ancient Egyptian Karnak temple, one of the top tourist destinations in the south of the country. Two attackers were killed when a bomb carried by one of them detonated.
The another assailant was injured by a gunshot to the head.
