The Egyptian Foreign Ministry called Friday for starting the Syrian negotiations in Geneva in January with a broad representation of the opposition.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Ahmed Abu Zied stressed the importance of these talks, brokered by the UN special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
Abu Zied urged de Mistura to exert utmost effort to ensure the representation of all Syrian opposition parties and effective national powers in the Geneva talks, so that the outcome can be implemented on the ground.
The spokesman pressed for action to reach a solution to the Syrian crisis in order to end the unprecedented suffering of the Syrian people, noting that the continued conflict poses a threat to stability of the whole region.
