The Foreign Ministry launched on Thursday a media campaign dubbed "Egypt Better today' marking important accomplishments achieved since the outbreak of the January 25 revolution in 2011.
On its Facebook page, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Thursday that the campaign would run for five days, starting January 20, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the January 25 Revolution.
The 'Egypt Better Today' campaign is designed to review the most important accomplishments that have been achieved since the January 25 Revolution, the spokesman said, adding the campaign used the hashtag #EgyptBetterToday to promote its articles on social medial websites.
The spokesperson said the campaign will cover 25 successes that have been achieved under five areas -- political rights and enhancement of citizen participation, restoration of Egypt's regional and international roles, youth empowerment, promotion of culture of diversity, and the path towards social justice and economic reform.
The first achievement cited by the spokesman was about the constitution made after a referendum which witnessed the highest voter turnout in the history of Egyptian referendums (38%, with more than 20 million voters casting their ballots)
Abu Zeid said the second accomplishment is ensuring that checks and balances are present in the Egyptian political system, the new constitution, for the first time in Egypt’s history, allows the House of Representatives to move for impeaching the President with a two-thirds majority vote following an investigation by the Public Prosecutor (Article 159).
He said the third accomplishment is the election of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi with a 96.9% landslide, in elections that witnessed a 47.5% voter turnout.
At the level of regional and international relations, the ministry boosted ties with the African states and established the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) to strengthen Egypt’s developmental role in Africa, the statement added.
Egypt is committed to enhancing African solidarity and mutual benefit in the economic sphere, Abu Zeid added.
The spokesman said another accomplishment was made when maintaining the independence of Egyptian decision-making through keeping multiple foreign policy alternatives and options.
