It is incumbent on the nation's institutions to propagate the values of prudence and transparency in their work, said an educator here at the opening of a forum on transparency and fighting institutional corruption on Wednesday.
Director of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr. Mahmoud Fakhra said at the "Transparency Forum", attended here by the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Bader Al-Eissa, that PAAET -- the forum organizer -- aimed at holding the forum to shed light on the international criteria and standards that must be fully assimilated by a public institution of any kind if it were to exercise transparency in its work.
In a speech opening the forum, the minister said the forum was fortuitously being held concomitantly with the International Anti-Corruption Day and praised PAAET for organizing it and for spreading the good word about the merits of transparency and fighting corruption at all levels, the academic, the financial, and the administrative.
Similarly, Public Authority for Anti-Corruption (PAAC) chief Abdul-Rahman Al-Nimesh said the organization he heads came about because the wise political leadership in the country was cognizant of the need to protect public funds from the tentacles of corruption.
He said the many ugly faces of corruption were largely manifested in the Kuwaiti society in bribery and nepotism, among other things. He urged the nation's institutions, ministries, civil society organizations, and the public at large to work collectively to help stamp out the ogre of corruption in society.
