The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Saturday raised its alert level to medium, putting its emergency response crews and machinery on standby during the rainy weather, its spokesman said.
The municipality is following up on weather updates from the meteorology department, and will further raise its emergency levels as the situation warrants, said spokesman Basel Tarawneh.
He said municipal crews and heavy machinery had been ready to deploy to designated major routes, intersections, tunnels and bridges across the capital "in case of necessity", urging tenants in lower floors to take extra precautions against flooding.
GAM recently announced that it had introduced four state-of-the-art, multi-purpose technical units (mobile workshops) as part of its fleet to offer on-the-spot vehicle maintenance during the bad weather.
Tarawneh also said the municipality's main emergency room in Tlaa Al Ali and 22 other operations rooms spread throughout the capital were ready to receive calls from the public.
