A gang of thieves accused of stealing iron safes containing gold and silver jewellery from many homes in the northern governorate will appear before the Lower Criminal Court for trial on August 25.
Investigations have been carried out into the case, Deputy Attorney General Hamad Al Qallaf said. The suspects are facing charges of theft, including stealing an iron safe containing watches, gold jewellery and 800 antique gold and silver Islamic coins collected by one of the victims over 25 years, some of which date back to the era of the Umayyad state and specifically the period of Hajjaj bin Yusuf.
The robbed items are estimated to be worth over BD 100,000, excluding the antique Islamic currencies which the victim said are priceless.
The suspects include a jeweller who bought the stolen items and melted some of the coins. Other items were confiscated by the security bodies.
