Kuwaiti MP and member of delegation to the Eighth meeting of heads of the GCC legislative councils Jamal Al-Omar said Sunday the meeting proposed launching a committee for coordinating the legislations of the GCC countries.
"The proposed committee is to serve as a link between the GCC legislatures and international parliamentary unions. It will follow up the implementation of legislations relating to economic integration among the GCC countries," Al-Omar told KUNA on the sidelines of the meeting.
The regular meeting opened earlier today with the handing over of the presidency of the GCC legislative councils' session from Kuwait's National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim to President of the Qatari Shura Council Mohammad Bin Mubarak Al-Khulaifi, he noted.
The meeting which coincides with "delicate political conditions" in the region and precedes the GCC summit, due in Doha on December 9, will continues debating a number of papers and draft resolutions tomorrow, Monday, he added.
Abdullah Al-Tamimi, another Kuwaiti MP, said the current meeting provides an amble opportunity for bringing the GCC states closer to each other and "this is what we aspire for.
"The meeting is expected to approve several economic legislations which are very important to the GCC countries amid the current decline of the oil prices," he said, noting that the nosedive of the prices is very serious to the GCC economies which rely heavily on oil revenues.
Al-Tamimi extolled His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for using his good offices, during his recent shuttle tour, to bridge the gaps among some GCC member states.
