Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab held a meeting Sunday to follow up the implementation of decisions related to control the Nile river transport system.
Present at the meeting were the ministers of local development, water resources and irrigation, transport, interior and justice, the Cairo governor and representative of the concerned authorities.
Mahlab stressed that a progress has been taken place during the past few days to control the river transport system.
Transport Minister Hani Dahi presented a report about measures taken during the past period to that effect.
In July, a boat collided with a barge off Al-Warraq district in the River Nile in Giza, leaving 38 people dead.
Boat accidents are common on the Nile. They are often blamed on rickety crafts or loose enforcement of laws.
