Ambassadors of the group of 18 states sponsoring peace efforts in Yemen said "unilateral and unconstitutional" actions in Sanaa city by the rebel Houthi militant group and militias loyal to the now-ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh are making the search for a peaceful solution more difficult.
In a statement, the ambassadors said, "Actions by the rebel militia will only lead to further divisions in Yemen and will not solve the country's political, economic and security problems which are already the cause of country-wide suffering."
They also expressed concern over the escalating violence in Yemen.
They called all involved parties to immediately heed the ceasefire, deal in a responsible manner with the efforts being made by the UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed and show commitment to the terms of reference of peaceful solution, namely the Gulf Cooperation Council's initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcome of Yemen's National Dialogue Conference and the relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions, including Resolution No. 2216.
