The website of Syria's Ministry of Defense was offline on Monday after being defaced by the "hacktivist" group Anonymous to protest a bloody crackdown on anti-government protestors.Repeated attempts to connect to the site, www.mod.gov.sy, were met with an error message on Monday. On Sunday, the Internet vigilante group Anonymous claimed on @YourAnonNews, one of a number Twitter feeds used by the shadowy group, to have hacked the defense ministry website. On its Tumblr feed, Anonymous posted a screen grab of the page before it went offline. The page included pictures of bloodied protestors and a message to the Syrian people predicting that President Bashar al-Assad will fall."To the Syrian people: The world stands with you against the brutal regime of Bashar al-Assad," the message said. "Know that time and history are on your side -- tyrants use violence because they have nothing else, and the more violent they are, the more fragile they become."All tyrants will fall, and thanks to your bravery, Bashar al-Assad is next," the message said. In a message to the Syrian military, Anonymous said "You are responsible for protecting the Syrian people, and anyone who orders you to kill women, children and the elderly deserves to be tried for treason."No outside enemy could do as much damage to Syria as Bashar Al-Assad has done," it said. "Defend your country -- rise up against the regime!"Syrian state television reported Monday that Assad had appointed a new defense minister, replacing General Ali Habib with General Daood Rajha.
