The Interior Ministry is on a maximum security alert to counter vandalizing calls by extremist groups to stage protests on Friday.
Interior Minister Mohamad Ibrahim held a series of meetings Thursday with his aides to discuss preparations to secure streets during the protests, high-level security sources told MENA.
The ministry already started the security plan at dawn with rapid deployment teams dispatched to secure all main squares and streets and combat groups at highways and desert roads, the sources said.
Coordination was made with the Armed Forces to secure vital institutions, including the HQs of the parliament, cabinet, state TV, Media Production City, Central Bank of Egypt, and main power and water stations, they added.
Also heavy security measures were adopted at all police stations and centers to deter any possible attacks.
