Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah on Friday pledged his full support to the Hamas movement during the latter's ongoing fighting with Israel in the Gaza Strip, despite their blatant difference regarding the Syrian crisis.
"We have always and will always stand by the Palestinian people and all resistance movements in Palestine, without exception. We tell our brothers in Gaza we are with you and beside you and we will do anything that we perceive is a duty in all fields," Nasrallah said on the occasion of the International al-Quds Day, an event to rally support for the Palestinians every year on the last Friday of the Muslim's Ramadan fasting month.
But he did not detail on what kind of support exactly that Hezbollah would offer Hamas.
Nasrallah also said that "Iran and Syria have also endorsed the resistance in Palestine for years with all available media, financial and logistical means."
The Hezbollah leader urged to put "all differences, sensitivities and problems aside regarding several issues," and to "approach the Gaza case as a people and a resistance's cause that does not entail any confusion between the good and the bad."
Hezbollah has garnered a wide-scale support from the Arab world after 2006, when the group stood up against Israel's military actions for 34 days. But this Shi'ite Muslim group's regional backing has dwindled ever since its militants crossed the border into Syrian to fight alongside Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces against Sunni Muslim rebels. Meanwhile, Hamas, once based in the Syrian capital Damascus, refused to back Assad, citing the president tried to quell with force the 2011 peaceful protests that later erupted into a full civil war.
