Leader of the Houthi group Abdulmalek al-Houthi
Sanaa - KUNA

Leader of the Houthi group Abdulmalek Al-Houthi on Sunday called on his followers to mobilize their military and financial resources "to protect the Yemeni people." He urged the Houthis, who control Sanaa and the northwestern and central parts of the country, to send more fighters to their military camps and the popular committees and provide them with the necessary financial resources.
In a speech, aired by Al-Masirah TV channel this evening, Al-Houthi said that the decision to announce public mobilization targets Al-Qaeda and ISIL groups, not the southern governorates.
"Serious and effective action is required in this moment to face the threat looming large after the Houthi group showed tolerance and patience," he said.
He accused President Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi of being "a stooge in the hands of foreign powers" and "no longer a legitimate head of state.
"By moving from Sanaa to (the southern city of) Aden, Hadi sought to transport the problems to the north to the south," Al-Houthi said.
The Houthi leader also accused the political parties of being "futile," saying they tried to hamper the national dialogue and manipulate (president) Hadi with a view to introducing the model of the Libyan conflict to the country. "We cannot bet on a dialogue sponsored by foreign powers that are hostile to the Yemeni people," he said, claiming that neighboring countries seek to destabilize Yemen.
Al-Houthi made the comments a few hours after gunmen, loyal to him, beefed up their presence in Ta'iz governorate and sent more military vehicles and weapons to the areas near the neighboring Lahij and Aden governorates.
On their part, the military troops and tribal gunmen, loyal to President Hadi, are bracing for a seemingly imminent battle against the Houthis.
