
Director General of the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Hayel Obeidat stressed Jordan's keenness to boost efforts designed to combat drugs and crime.
Addressing the 59th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) currently being held in Vienna, he said Jordan is working to enhance the legislative and institutional frame to combat drugs.
"Regional circumstances have helped in creating an environment that led to an increase in drug smuggling to neighboring countries," he said, noting that this is placing an increasing pressure on Jordan and its official agencies due to the increasing security burdens and the hosting of a large number of refugees.
Obeidat called for concerted efforts by the international community to support Jordan in addressing the challenges resulting from the current situation, and contribute to enhancing national efforts to combat drugs.
