
Hundreds of people have been killed since the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) began its offensive on the Syrian town of Ain Al-Araby (Kobane) on September 16, a Syrian monitoring group said Saturday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said 20 civilian Kuds and at least 226 personnel from the Kurdish fighters were killed in clashes with ISIL militants inside and on outskirts of Ain Al-Arab.
At least 298 ISIL gunmen were killed as well, it noted.
SOHR said the real number of fatalities might be bigger than this digit because it was hard to reach many areas and villages that witnessed fierce clashes.
ISIL has been mounting a wide-scale offensive against Kobane in a bid to control the border town. It failed an attempt to control the Turkish border crossing.
Military aircraft of a Wester-Arab international coalition have been bombing ISIL locations inside and on outskirts of Kobane.
