The Interior Ministry has prepared a security plan for Benghazi to go into force once the fighting there ends, the ministry's media officer said.
Security was restored in most areas in Benghazi but intermittent mortar shells continue to be fired on some areas where clashes are ongoing, Nader el Hawni said Wednesday.
At a recent meeting in the eastern city of Benghazi involving representatives of civil society institutions and Interior Minister Omar el Senki, the two sides reached agreement on the formation of a joint operation room to facilitate communication between them on the issue of security.
On Sunday, Libya's Prime Minister Abdullah al Thinni visited Benghazi to show support for his troops battling Islamists groups of Ansar al Sharia.
In October, Thinni's forces and troops loyal to army general Khalifa Haftar, launched an offensive against Islamist fighters in Benghazi .
Thinni's troops have regained territory in several districts of Benghazi, but fighting continues near the port and other areas.
