The international community response to pleas Jordan made to mitigate the heavy burden of the Syrian refugees crisis didn't surpass 30 percent while estimations show that Jordan needs $2.8 in 2015 to grapple with this strain, a minister said on Monday.
However, the Kingdom's own efforts helped in alleviating some of the implications of the refugees crisis but still adequate international assistance is needed, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Ibrahim Saif told a Dead Sea conference on Syrian refugees.
The event titled "Syrian Refugees in Jordan: The Question of Community and Media" brought together more than 200 local and foreign academics, journalists and political figures as well as government officials.
Undersecretary of the Health Ministry, Daifallah al-Lozi, said the total cost of healthcare services provided to the Syrian refugees in Jordan since the eruption of the turmoil in their country is JD864 million.
UNHCR Representative to Jordan Andrew Harper asserted that the media plays an important role in highlighting the heavy burden Jordan bears, stressing his agency's efforts in this regard.
The gathering seeks to build a database on the conditions of Syrian refugees in Jordan in particular and neighboring countries in general in addition to creating opportunities for networking relations between the media and the various organizations involved in the affairs of Syrian refugees.
