
The Public Prosecution has completed its investigation in the killing of police officer Mahmoud Fareed, Chief Prosecutor Nawaf Al-Awadhi announced, noting that twelve suspects, including eight in absentia, will stand trial at the Criminal Court.
Details of the investigation revealed that the first suspect had set up a terror group, which was joined by the other defendants, for the aim of targeting security officers and killing them.
The first defendant requested the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth suspects to monitor the movements and timing of the security vehicle at the marine entrance of Al-Eker in order to choose the most suitable place to plant the explosive to destroy it and kill on-duty policemen.
The first suspect, assisted by a number of defendants, manufactured the explosive device in the house of the eleventh and planted in the agreed upon site. The second and eighth suspects waited for the armored vehicle, and when it arrived the first detonated it after the victim got off it, which led to his death later.
The Public Prosecution ordered the lifting of imprints from the blast scene, recruited crime scene experts to analyse the remnants of the explosive device and the seized materials, informed about the witnesses' statements and quizzed the suspects.
Based on the evidence collected from the witnesses' statements, the confessions of the accused, police investigation and reports of forensic experts, the suspects will stand trial on November 17 at the High Criminal Court over charges of setting up, running and joining a group for the sake of disrupting the provisions of the Constitution, using terrorist means, premeditated murder, killing an on-duty employees, attempted murder of other, possession of explosive devices and using forged documents.
