
Joint Iraqi forces are making slow advance towards the central of Tikrit city of Salaheddin governorate in northern Iraq to drive out Daesh militants stationed in Al Awja district, security sources said on Sunday.
The Iraqi army and police, backed by Iraqi warplanes, managed to recapture the headquarters of the government compound there, the sources added.
A number of Daesh militants and snipers were killed in one of the besieged areas in Tikrit, the sources stressed.
Also, the Iraqi forces and warplanes demolished a raft of weapons' stores in the city.
