Anbar Provincial Council announced on Saturday the retirement of Governor Ahmed Khalaf Al-Dulaimi who sustained serious wounds during a fight with Daesh militants in September.
In a statement by the governor's media office, the council said it has referred Al-Dulaimi to retirement and opened the door for nominating his successor.
Al-Dulaimi has been on a sick leave since he was seriously injured in clashes in Haditha town, in the west part of Anbar province.
Anbar province has witnessed a rise of violence since its cities fell one after another in the hands of the terrorist group.
