Iraq's parliament fails to question finance minister over lack of quorum

For the second time, Iraq's House of Representatives failed to hold a session to question Finance Minister Hoshiar Zebari over lack of necessary quorum.

The parliament tried to hold the question-and-answer session on Tuesday to see whether the Kurdish politician will remain in office or not but also failed to complete the 165-strong quorum.

Today, Only 141 MPs attended the session.

The parliament speaker decided to postpone the session to September 20.

Kurds hold 62 seats in Iraq's 328-seat parliament and three ministerial posts in Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi's government.

To win a no-confidence vote the majority of the parliament -- 165 lawmakers -- need to cast their vote against the minister. 

Zebari has been the finance minister since October 2014. Before that, he was Iraq's foreign minister since 2005. Lawmakers, in particular from the Shiite Daawa Party, have accused Zebari of mismanaging the country's finances, which the minister denies.
