Islamists attack airport, airbase in Libya

Islamic militants attacked Al-Abraq International Airport and Airbase in Libya on Tuesday with BM-21 Grad rockets, with no casualties reported.
The attacks, which occurred early morning, did not also cause any material damage since the rockets landed at the surroundings, a senior military official at the airport told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Darna Islamic Youth Shura Council claimed responsibility for the attack, stressing that the group had only targeted the airbase, not the airport.
The Council said the aim behind the attack was to destroy the warplanes' runway used by troops belonging to retired army General Khalifa Haftar.
Al-Abraq Airport and airbase are under continuous attacks with no damage so far, since Haftar had waged war against Islamic groups in the country a few months ago.
Meanwhile, the Libyan government welcomed the UN's condemnation of the attacks on Al-Hilal oil region, noting that air raids executed by the Libyan army on Islamists are legal and aim to protect civilians.
The government also stressed in a statement the importance of following article number 2174 of the UN Security Council regarding fighting and arresting armed groups who pose danger on Libya and its people.
The United Nations Support Mission In Libya (UNSMIL) had condemned the Hilal attacks and the raids on Misrata city, saying that such actions will only worsen the security and political situations in the country.
