Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Nasser Judeh, called on Monday for cementing cooperation and coordination to help Iraq in addressing the menace of terrorism which is affecting the Arab state.
Judeh made these remarks while participating in a meeting held in Paris to discuss the situation in Iraq. He said, ''The first step is to change the situation which led to the deterioration in Iraq.'' The minister reiterated that reforms should commence immediately to enhance Iraq's role as an inclusive state with all sections participating in a political process to strengthen the rule of law, rebuild the social fabric while maintaining its diversity and thus defeat the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
Judeh told the conferees that the ability of the IS to exploit the vacuum in eastern Syria provided it a base to build its military and economic capabilities. Therefore, the international community should target all infrastructural assets of the IS group found anywhere.
The minister noted His Majesty King Abdullah II's statements during the recent NATO summit, in which the monarch emphasized "that any effective effort should have three elements: time, borders and the full commitment of the stakeholders in such a collective effort to uproot terrorism." The minister affirmed that the IS is a cross-border threat adding, "We in Jordan are committed to the collective effort and call upon the concerned countries to contribute towards this effort."
